Top tips to cheat the heat...

There's a whole bunch of things you can do around your home to keep the heat in and the cold out.

From ensuring your loft and cavity walls are snug with insulation, to simply closing your curtains at dusk to reduce heat escaping, you can make your home far more energy efficient with very little effort -- and you might even qualify for a government grant for the larger jobs. For starters, stuff a draft excluder at the bottom of any external doors to keep drafts out. Then think about investing in heatkeeper radiator panels, which start at around £15 per pack and could save you up to 20% on your fuel bills. A more fun way of heating your home is to invite round all your friends, as each guest is the equivalent of a 175-watt heater. Turn down the heating and let the fun begin!
